ZSTU design re-staged internationally

ZSTU design re-staged internationally- school landscape architecture institute won the first place in the World Horticulture Exposition Zhejiang Exhibition Garden conceptual scheme draft



2019 Beijing World Horticultural Exposition will be 20 years later after the precursor of 1999 Kunming World Horticultural Exposition, and a global A1 exposition, as well as the highest-level and largest-scale international exposition after the Shanghai Expo. The year 2019 will be the 70th anniversary of the founding of the country, and would be of great significance, so the event is greatly emphasized by the central, provincial, city and district governments, and paid close attention to by the international communities.     

On Oct 12, 2017, the exhibition participation preparation leading group office of Zhejiang Provincial Forestry Department for 2019 Beijing World Horticultural Exposition organized and held the qualification examination and appraisal conference of the conceptual design scheme of Zhejiang Exhibition Garden for Beijing World Horticulture Exposition, the Zhejiang Exhibition Garden scheme designed by the landscape architecture institute of the School of Architecture and Engineering of ZSTU was successfully listed, and won the first place among the excellent schemes.  

On Dec 22, 2017, the executive committee of Beijing World Horticultural Exposition organized and held a China Exhibition Garden Scheme Expert Appraisal Conference in Beijing. Some renowned domestic experts in the fields of gardening, landscape, architecture, etc, as well as the relevant leadership of China Flower Association, Beijing World Horticultural Expo Coordination Bureau, Yanqing District of Beijing Municipality as well as the various appraisal participation provinces and districts, etc, presented at the conference. The Zhejiang exhibition scheme designed by the landscape architecture institute of the School of Architecture and Engineering of ZSTU, on behalf of Zhejiang Province, was examined by the executive committee, won general favorable comments and was unanimously voted for. After the conference, CCTV News Channel, Beijing TV Station, Beijing Daily, the official platform of the World Horticulture Exposition, etc, had interviews and covered the conference, which meant that “ZSTU” design was staged at international exhibitions once again.  

The Zhejiang Exhibition Garden scheme proposed to realize the theory of “Golden and silver mountain”, to take into consideration of the ecological, cultural and historic characteristics, to adopt the manner of realism to exhibit the Zhejiang traditional culture and to tell the moving stories of “beautiful production, beautiful life, beautiful ecology” in the new era of Zhejiang. The design technique was subtle and changeable, and constructed and simulated the special topography of “70 percent of mountain, 10 percent of water and 20 percent of farmland” via micro-terrain. It adopted the character “之” - shaped stream to simulate the river course curve of Qiangtangjiang River, adopted the landscape architecture of ancient charm to present the  exquisite and graceful Zhejiang temperament, adopted the the stories of Liangzhu Culture, Liangzhu Culture, Great Canal Culture and Red Boat Spirit, to tell the provincial profound historic cultural context and their yearning for the new times. The scheme depicted a painting volume of “green life and beautiful homeland” featuring “the mountain and water making picturesque Zhejiang, the home-village and nostalgia making life-environmental Zhejiang”, exhibited the provincial development notion “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets” and the ecological civilization construction results, displayed the Zhejiang gardening new species, new technology, new products, new achievements and their application in life, and represented the new time, new aspiration and new anchor Zhejiang achieved in the ecological civilization construction.
